Sue Halsey-Brandt backs Carol Day for MLA Richmond-Steveston
Popular former local politician throws support behind Day

RICHMOND, B.C. – April 16, 2013 – With just under a month to go until the May 14 B.C. Provincial Election, Member of the Legislative Assembly candidate for Richmond-Steveston, Carol Day, has received an official endorsement from retired Richmond City Councillor and School Board Trustee, Sue Halsey-Brandt.

Halsey-Brandt worked with Day in 2005 when both were campaigning for Richmond City Council. In 2008, while Halsey-Brandt was campaigning for re-election at City Council, she endorsed Day for School Board Trustee. Halsey-Brandt backed Day again in 2011 for City Councillor.

Halsey-Brandt served as a member of the Richmond City Council from 2001 until her retirement from politics in 2011. Halsey-Brandt was very popular with voters and was re-elected three times to City Council, finishing second in the polls in 2008 after topping them in the two previous re-election campaigns. Prior to City Council, she served as a School Board Trustee for 17 years.

“I hope Carol wins,” said Halsey-Brandt. “She would be a fabulous MLA. Carol is hard working and has the right stuff to get the job done.”

While in council, Halsey-Brandt served on the Finance; General Purposes; Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services; and Planning Standing Committees; and was Vice Chair of the Public Works and Transportation Committee.

In addition to nearly three decades of public service, Halsey-Brandt worked as a teacher at Strathcona Elementary School.

Day announced her MLA candidacy for Richmond-Steveston with the B.C. Conservative Party back on April 4. John Cummins, leader of the B.C. Conservatives, was a Member of Parliament for the Delta-Richmond East riding from 1993 until 2011.
